The adventures contained within Sly Flourish's Fantastic Adventures include:. The Night Blade : Ralavaz the Night Blade, a notorious bandit chieftain, has been released from prison.
Rumors mark him as having returned to the hideout from which he and his band once operated—a ruined watchtower where a new group of bandits now dwells. The local sheriff believes that Ralavaz's return means the Night Blades are back—and that the bandit chieftain must be stopped for good. The Dwarven Vault : Miners digging on Goldpeak Mountain recently broke into an ancient dwarven vault lost for centuries, and from which treasure and madness now flow. Monstrous attacks in the local area see the adventurers asked to investigate, leading them to the mines and the discovery of the ancient magic underlying the threat.
The Well of the Black Sun : The mine known as Deepfathom Well is the only source of the lucrative alchemical substance voidwater. However, a number of recent murders—including the immolation of a head miner—have closed the operation, and the mine's owner hires the characters to investigate. As they explore the mysteries buried deep beneath the ground, the characters discover the dark power lurking within the mine—and expose the activities of a secret cult that seeks to control that power. Rosethorn : A particularly intelligent goblin named Rosethorn has brought the local goblin tribes under his control, and is leading them in devastating raids against trade wagons and farm folk.
When the local sheriff seeks help to put an end to these dastardly robberies, the characters uncover multiple levels of mystery and subterfuge, and discover the secret behind Rosethorn's villainous mind. The Gleam in the King's Eye : Lord Marlin Whitesparrow hires the characters to join him as he explores the lost chambers beneath his ancient keep. His goal is to claim the Crown of the First Lord—a lost family relic that might help solidify his rule. But within the forgotten spaces beneath the keep, Whitesparrow and the characters will discover family histories that should have been left alone. The Crashed Palace : When a celestial palace falls to earth, its destruction unleashes corrupting magic and a bearded devil intent on summoning its master—a powerful pit fiend from the hellish plane of Dyn.
Which rooms connect with which other rooms? How do people get from one major location to another? We don't need to draw out wonderful isometric maps for this. A few lines on a 3x5 card can give us enough of an idea how things connect up. Again, we want just enough for our players to feel like they're navigating a real place but not so much that we smother them or ourselves with too much detail and not enough flexibility. As we mentioned, this method for designing fantastic locations is intended to leave lots of blank spots for us.
It gives us enough of an idea of what we're talking about to run a fun game without so much detail that we either spend a year designing it or force our players down one particular detailed path. With our locations in hand, we're comfortable and ready to let our game grow. Sly Flourish New to Sly Flourish? A Brief Summary Here's a brief summary of this method for developing fantastic locations. Fill your head with inspirational ideas from books, movies, art, and published adventures. Thanks, Sly! Oliver R April 10, am UTC. DO NOT BUY THiS PRODUCT if you want actual Maps -there are no actual maps!!!! No maps in a locations supplement Buy the lazy dm workbook that has excellent locations - same author - but with actual maps Lon N September 20, am UTC. A couple of the locations in the description sound strikingly similar to Sly Flourish's Fantastic Adventures. Anybody own both of them that can tell me if this is the case? Mike S April 28, pm UTC. Douglas B July 22, am UTC. As noted by the reviewer below but missed by me before I purchased it , this location outline book has NO maps. Hard to imagine why they were not included.
Makes the locations rather difficult to use without a lot of work on your own to figure out a map that matches the descriptions. Indeed, these locations do not include maps. This was by design. I intended for these locations to be flexible in supporting GMs for whatever size they needed whether it's large sprawling locations or small two or three room dungeons. Tying them to a specific map would make them too rigid for this purpose. They aren't but I recognize that it can be confusing. I did add a paragraph to the product description to mention this. If you do want to tie these locations to maps, I highly recommend using one of the free maps that Dyson Logos has on their website. They have thousands of maps and many of them will work very well for these locations. Nathan R July 21, pm UTC.
I was disappointed to see that there were no maps. I would not have bought this had I known that ahead of time. Perhaps it would be appropriate to say in the product description that no maps are provided. I am sorry you are disappointed. Please contact me and I'll try to make it right. As mentioned in a comment above, I intended for DMs to be able to use these locations in a variety of situations. Not tying the locations to a map was intended to help GMs use them with whatever maps they choose; large, small, linear, Jaquan-style; however they want. I understand this was a disappointment for you but it wasn't without thought. I did add a paragraph describing the lack of maps and why to the description. Thank you for the feedback! Sharon C October 29, pm UTC. Fun to read and tremendously useful. Two detailed locations in this book were easy to mash up and provide an hours of fun exploration--for which I would've been totally unprepared without this resource.

I absolutely loved Fantastic LAIRS, because I could easily drop them right into my campaign with very little prep or even advanced notice, and hoped that this offering would work similarly.
